I haven't kept up with my painting for the last couple of months because of health issues. In mid-August I was walking next to Zim when he suddenly spooked and knocked me down, dislocating my right shoulder. Five days after that I had a heart attack and was in the hospital for a week getting three stents put in. My heart recovered quite quickly, but my shoulder remains a problem. I only have a limited range of motion in my right arm. I didn't want to try to paint left-handed so I waited a while to begin painting again, but it is still a problem and I may need surgery.
This painting is based on a photo I took a few days before my accident. We were letting Zim graze on bits of grass near the horse trailers and I was struck by the sight of some backlit maple leaves against a dark background of oaks. I started going back to the open studio at the senior center and did this in three sessions.
